SHOW OVERVIEW
The year is 1958, and the much-adored rock-and-roll idol — Conrad Birdie — has been drafted into the US army. His songwriter and agent, Albert, and Albert’s secretary and some-time girlfriend, Rosie, hatch a plan for a farewell performance to take place on The Ed Sullivan Show, which they hope will help sell Birdie’s new song “One Last Kiss,” and ultimately save Almaelou records from going under. To cap off the performance, Birdie will actually give ‘one last kiss’ to Kim MacAfee, an avid member of the Conrad Birdie fan club from Sweet Apple, Ohio.
When Albert and Rosie head to Sweet Apple to prepare for Birdie’s arrival, things start to unravel. Kim’s father is starstruck at the thought of being on The Ed Sullivan Show with his daughter, and Kim’s new steady, Hugo gets jealous at the thought of Kim kissing Conrad on national television.

REGISTRATION
Online registration begins February 13th at 8:00pm on our website at www.edmt.info and closes when full or on Tuesday, February 20th at 11:59pm, whichever comes first. (If the cast is full you may choose to be placed on a waiting list.) Please be sure to complete the online medical release form and rules of conduct form. Please bring your conflict calendar and copy of a birth certificate (if you are new to EDMT) with you on audition day.
Those who did not have an opportunity to register online before the deadline may register on audition day if space allows. EVERYONE registered will be in the show. Auditions are to determine who will perform specific roles.
AUDITIONS
When you arrive you will be measured and have a photo taken for the program.
Auditionees will be seated by number in a row of 10 chairs in the audition room. Parents are invited to watch. When your number is called, you will come forward, introduce yourself and your song, and then sing for up to one minute. You may sing acapella, with an instrumental CD, or you may bring sheet music for the accompanist. We do not allow CDs with lyrics on the CD, nor iPods or cell phones.
Next, 20 auditionees will perform the dance audition for the staff in groups of five. Some groups of auditionees will sing first and dance second, and others will dance first and sing second. Those who did not learn the audition dance routine on Monday, February 19th can come early and learn the dance on the day of auditions.
Finally, the Artistic Staff will announce the audition numbers of those who are being called back. Those called back will proceed immediately to the “Callback Table” in the registration room where they will pick up any songs/scripts needed in preparation for the callback day on Thursday, March 1st.
CALLBACKS
Thursday, March 1st, at 3:30pm at EDMT’s Rehearsal Facility
Those called back will be asked to read lines from the script and sing the song(s) they were given at the “Callback Table” at auditions. They should also be prepared to dance.
CAST LIST
The cast list will be posted on the EDMT website on Saturday, March 3rd by 6:00pm.
CAST REQUESTS
If you have a family member who is hearing impaired who may want to attend the show, then please request the cast that performs on the day of the Sign Interpreted performance, which for Bye Bye Birdie is Saturday, May 5th at 2:00pm.
Due to the large number of special requests, we must now limit requests for inclusion in a cast with a specific person to those requesting to be cast with their sibling(s).
PUBLICITY APPEARANCES
Cast members obtaining lead roles are expected to make themselves available for publicity events such as television appearances and newspaper interviews.
COST
$445 Tuition Fee
For one additional sibling, add $350. For two or more additional siblings, add $300 each.
Plus $75 Refundable Parent Participation Deposit (20 volunteer hours per family required, 3 of which must be completed at load in or load out). Additional parent participation opportunities will be discussed at the parent meeting. To receive a refund, all volunteer logs MUST be turned in to either the Parent Volunteer Coordinator or Show Producer by no later than May 6th (ABSOLUTELY NO EXCEPTIONS). NOTE: If a family registers multiple children in the show, only one parent volunteer deposit will be collected.
Additional expenses may include the purchase of personal items such as shoes, changing leotard, or a wig; and those which are completely optional, such as cast photos.
REFUND POLICY
NO refunds of tuition will be made once the cast list is posted on the EDMT website, except in extenuating circumstances such as death in the family, or a medical injury, serious illness or surgery not known about prior to auditions.
Note: Auditionees and their parents are aware that rehearsals are strenuous and require the cast member to have the ability to focus for two-and-a-half hours, with one break.
Parents of cast members NEW to EDMT or cast members who have only done an EDMT training show must attend the PARENT MEETING Tuesday, March 6th at 7:00pm, where you will receive important information critical to the success of your cast member and show. Failure to attend this meeting will result in an absence that will count against the three absences allowed per child during the entire rehearsal period. Parents of cast members who have previously participated in EDMT shows are welcome; however, attendance is not required.
REHEARSALS
Rehearsals will begin Monday, March 5th at EDMT; this will be a read-through with leads; the first rehearsal for the entire cast will be Tuesday, March 6th. Our regular rehearsal schedule will be Mondays (leads), Tuesdays (entire cast) and Thursdays (entire cast). However, rehearsal schedules are subject to change. It is extremely important that you download a calendar from the website and mark any schedule conflicts and present them with registration forms on audition day. Please DO NOT REGISTER if your schedule has more than 3 conflicts on NON-mandatory dates or ANY conflicts with mandatory rehearsals, tech week or performances. NO absences are allowed during mandatory rehearsals, tech week or performance dates. Missing any of these important dates may result in being dropped from the show.
Mandatory rehearsals begin Monday, April 16th and the show runs from April 27th through May 6th at Harris Center (Three Stages) at Folsom Lake College.
EDMT awards up to (3) full scholarships for a show with a cast size of 50, to individuals deemed most appropriate from the pool of applications.
A scholarship may be all or part of one tuition charge.
Scholarship recipients will not be charged the $75 parent volunteer deposit, but will be held responsible for completing their volunteer hours. Scholarship recipients will not be eligible for another scholarship if parent participation hours are not completed. High school students may opt to complete the parent volunteer hours on their own.
Award decisions will be made based on potential benefit to applicant, potential benefit to the show, and financial need. Scholarship recipients must be in good standing with the company and commit to remain in the show regardless of whether or not a lead role is obtained. They also may be asked from time to time to help out at the EDMT facility.
The deadline for applications is Tuesday, February 6th at 5:00pm. Applications received after the deadline will not be considered. Recipients of scholarships will be notified by email no later than 5:00pm on Friday, February 9th.
