SHOW OVERVIEW
Funny, warm, romantic and touching, The Music Man is family entertainment at its best.  Meredith Willson’s six-time, Tony Award-winning musical comedy has been entertaining audiences since 1957 and is a family-friendly story to be shared with every generation.

The Music Man follows fast-talking traveling salesman, Harold Hill, as he cons the people of River City, Iowa, into buying instruments and uniforms for a boys’ band that he vows to organize – this, despite the fact that he doesn’t know a trombone from a treble clef.  His plans to skip town with the cash are foiled when he falls for Marian, the librarian, who transforms him into a respectable citizen by curtain’s fall.

THE MUSIC MAN
Is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI).
All authorized performance materials are also supplied by MTI.

REHEARSALS
Rehearsals begin on Monday, February 14th, 4:00pm-6:15pm at EDMT; this will be a read-through with leads; new cast members or those who have only been in a training show will have a new performer orientation from 4:00-5:00pm.  The first rehearsal for the entire cast will be on Tuesday, February 15th, 4:00-6:30pm.

Review the calendar closely.  Mandatory rehearsals begin on Monday, April 11th and the show runs from April 22nd through May 1st at Oak Ridge High School in El Dorado Hills.

Each cast member is allowed three (3) absences on NON-MANDATORY DATES before being removed from the show.  Arriving more than 15 minutes late or leaving more than 15 minutes early constitutes a one-half absence.  NO absences are allowed during mandatory rehearsals, tech week or show dates.  Missing any of these important dates may result in being dropped from the show.

Rehearsals will take place at EDMT, 5011 Golden Foothill Pkwy, Unit #4, in El Dorado Hills, CA.

PARENT MEETING
Parents of cast members NEW to EDMT or cast members who have only done an EDMT training show must attend the PARENT MEETING on Monday, February 14th from 4:00-5:00pm, where you will receive important information critical to the success of your cast member and show. This is during the time where your new performer will be called to a new performer orientation. There will be a reminder in the first newsletter you will receive after the cast list is posted. Failure to attend this meeting will result in an absence that will count against the three absences allowed per child during the entire rehearsal period.  Parents of cast members who have previously participated in EDMT shows are welcome; however, attendance is not required.

VOLUNTEER HOURS
Our volunteers are some of the most important people in our organization.  Without our volunteers, our productions would not be possible.  Volunteers are needed for rehearsals, poster blitz, set painting, costume and prop support, shows, load-in/load-out, etc.

Because of this, each family is required to complete at least 20 volunteer hours for this show.  A link to sign up for volunteer positions will be sent in the newsletter.

HEALTH & SAFETY
Click HERE to review the current EDMT Safety Protocol.

NEW participants to EDMT since August 2020 are required to sign an EDMT Waiver and Release Form.  Once registered, participants will receive the waiver via DocuSign.  The form must be signed and returned prior to the first rehearsal.

PERFORMER RULES OF CONDUCT
There are standards of behavior you are expected to follow when you participate in any EDMT activity.  They are very simple and can be followed by anyone who knows how to behave appropriately in the company of others.  What does that mean specifically?  We expect every participant to be courteous, respectful, and responsible while understanding that focus, dedication, and commitment are necessary to achieve the group’s goals.

We expect each participant to be punctual and prepared for rehearsal.  Prepared by knowing the material that was covered in the previous rehearsals, and also prepared by being well-groomed and dressed for movement (no jeans) and wearing dance footwear (no tennis shoes).

We also expect that everyone participating in EDMT activities will take good care of the facility; both our rehearsal areas and our performance venues and equipment.  That means cleaning up after yourself and taking your belongings home with you at the end of rehearsal.

It should be no surprise that we have a zero tolerance policy towards any substance abuse.  Violations will result in immediate dismissal and appropriate authorities may be contacted.

Every EDMT participant should understand that their contributions towards a positive, healthy, and supportive environment are necessary for the group to be successful and to ensure that every El Dorado Musical Theatre production is the best it can be for each and every audience member as well as for each and every performer.
