SHOW OVERVIEW
The Adventures of Captain Hyper – In Space No One Can Hear You Sing.  This space adventure tells the story of the Starship Broadway under the command of Captain Hyperion MacGreensmith, also known as Captain Hyper.  As the crew flees to escape Imperial Raiders, they travel to a planet called Monotonian Five. The planet is in crisis.  Due to an excessive fondness for watching news reports, the entire population has lost its humor.  The crew must make the choice to either return to their ship, the Broadway, or help the Monotonians.  What will Captain Hyper do to save the day?  Find out in The Adventures of Captain Hyper – In Space No One Can Hear You Sing.

ABOUT EDMT’S TRAINING SHOW PROGRAM
Training Shows are an ideal way for young people to start learning about performance and theater. For young people who already have some theater experience, it is a unique opportunity to gain further experience acting, singing, and dancing on stage.

Our Training Shows start with the key theater terms and performing. Student performers then progress through actually staging a performance. The show itself is a “lighter” production that is perfectly suited to younger performers.

The first class is a real audition that parallels the audition process used by El Dorado Musical Theatre and most other stage performance groups. Since all students who enroll in the class participate and perform on stage, auditions are for determining who will perform each specific role.

REGISTRATION
Online registration begins Tuesday, February 23rd at 8:00pm on our website at www.edmt.info/captainhyper and closes when full or on March 1st at 8:00pm, whichever comes first.  (If the cast is full you may choose to be placed on a waiting list.)  Everyone registered will be in the show.  Auditions are to determine who will perform specific roles.

NEW participants to EDMT since August 2020 are required to sign an EDMT Waiver and Release Form to acknowledge their understanding of the important new practices in place to protect all students and staff members against COVID-19.  Once registered, participants will receive the waiver via DocuSign.  The form must be signed and returned prior to the first rehearsal.

[New to EDMT:  Bring a copy of your birth certificate to your dance audition to verify your age.]

SHOW FAQs

Who can participate?
Boys and girls between the ages of 5 and 9. (Age as of the date of auditions.)

Why do we have auditions?
The purpose of the audition is to determine how well students can sing or dance and to determine who can best perform each role. Students are not expected to arrive fully versed as a performer since that is what they are learning in the class.

What to wear to a dance audition?
Dress comfortably for a dance audition. (Clothes and shoes that allow you to move easily, NO sandals or clunky boots.) Everyone is expected to participate in the dance audition. Masks are required.

How to prepare a song/video for the vocal audition?
Submit a video, no longer than one minute, of performer singing a song of their choice.  Submissions are due by midnight on Thursday, March 4th.  Please send emails to edmt@edmt.info.

In the video, performer should introduce themselves (name and age) and their song, and then sing for up to one minute.  Video may be attached in an email or sent via YouTube, or Google drive link.

Performers may sing acapella (voice alone with no accompaniment), with an instrument, or instrumental CD.

What is the class/cast size?
Students are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Depending on the number of registrants, we will have a maximum of three casts with 30 performers each. Students who apply after the first 90 spots are filled will be placed on a waiting list.

Where are rehearsals?
Rehearsals will take place at EDMT, 5011 Golden Foothill Pkwy, Unit #4, in the El Dorado Hills Business Park off of Latrobe Rd.

Who do I go to when I have a question?
Please direct all questions to the Show Coordinator or Producer, (Mrs.) Chris Hobbs.  Please avoid disrupting rehearsals by going directly to the artistic staff.

Will siblings be placed together in the same cast group?  Can we request to be in a cast group with a friend?
Cast groups will be created by the artistic staff to meet the needs of the show.  Siblings will be placed in the same cast.  There are NO FRIEND REQUESTS for cast groups for this show.

Are masks required?
Yes.  Masks are required for all students and staff members while on site.  Performers will be given breaks for water and will be closely supervised during these brief unmasked breaks.

Can parents observe or see the space where rehearsals are held?
For the health and safety of all involved, only registered performers, rehearsal monitors and staff members may be on site while rehearsals are in progress.  Therefore, at this time parents are not invited to observe.

How will drop off and pick up work?
All performers should enter EDMT through the front door entrance and arrive 10-15 minutes before their scheduled rehearsal time for check-in and a no-touch temperature check.  After rehearsal, performers will exit EDMT through the front door.  Rehearsal Monitors will wait with the performers until parents arrive.  Please arrive on time to pick up your performer.
