SHOW OVERVIEW
Cady Heron may have grown up on an African savanna, but nothing prepared her for the wild and vicious ways of her strange new home: suburban Illinois. How will this naïve newbie rise to the top of the popularity pecking order? By taking on The Plastics, a trio of lionized frenemies led by the charming but ruthless Regina George. But when Cady and her friends devise a “Revenge Party” to end Regina’s reign, she learns the hard way that you can’t cross a queen bee without getting stung.

Based on the Paramount Pictures film Mean Girls

MEAN GIRLS
Is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI).
All authorized performance materials are also supplied by MTI.

CAST OF CHARACTERS

Cady – A new junior at North Shore High School, Cady grew up in Africa and was homeschooled by her wildlife biologist parents. She is warm, bright, and strong enough to take on The Plastics. Is the emotional heart of our story.
Regina – Regina is the Queen Bee of the Plastics. When she shines her light on you, you feel like the most important person in the world. When that light goes cold, you want to die. She is regal, still, and “hot”, but at her most vulnerable moments, she is just a kid in over her head.
Janis – An “Art Freak” and social outcast, Janis is not afraid to be weird or make others uncomfortable. She paints herself as an objective observer, but, like so many of us, she longs to avenge the devastating events of eighth grade.
Damian – Outgoing and an active member of the student activities committee, Damian is a fiercely loyal friend to Janis and they have the close rapport of a comedy team.
Gretchen – One of the Plastics. Desperate to please Regina and to maintain her position in the Plastics, Gretchen is a nervous wreck. She is a “banker” meaning she befriends people to “bank” their secrets so she can trade them later for her own benefit. Her fragility at times is heartbreaking.
Karen – One of the Plastics. Although her intellect and personality never had a chance tto develop, Karen is essentially kind, relaxed, and a generous laugher.
Aaron – A cute boy with a good moral compass and a backbone. He’s not immune to all the female attention he gets, but he’s not going to let himself be a pawn in their chess game either. Broadway and pop tenor.
Mrs. George/Ms. Norbury – Mrs. Heron is Cady’s intellectual mom who can’t understand why her daughter is devolving before her eyes. Ms. Norbury is Cady’s world-weary Calculus teacher who pushes Cady to be her smartest self. Mrs. George is Regina’s “cool mom.” She’s desperate to look young and feel like one of the teens. She’s also desperate for Regina not to repeat her mistakes. Great singer. Distinctly defines these three characters. Eclectic Broadway vocal mix.
Mr. Duvall – The principal of North Shore High. Mr. Duvall may have once taught computers at Joliet penitentiary, but nothing prepared him for the harsh realities of out-of-control junior girls. Funny and a strong singer.
Kevin G. – Kevin is the extremely driven captain of the North Shore Mathletes. He is a confident student and a decent rapper.

VOLUNTEER HOURS
Our volunteers are some of the most important people in our organization. Without our volunteers, our productions would not be possible. Volunteers are needed for rehearsals, poster blitz, set painting, costume and prop support, shows, load-in/load-out, etc.

  • Each family is required to complete at least 20 volunteer hours for this show.
  • If your family does not complete 20 volunteer hours, the family will be charged a $440 fee.
  • Volunteer positions will be available on “SignUp.” A link to this software will be sent in the newsletter.
  • When volunteering, DO NOT bring other kids. When volunteering for the other cast, DO NOT bring your performer(s).
  • If you sign-up as a Backstage Dresser, DO NOT send anyone else in your place who did not receive training.

PERFORMER RULES OF CONDUCT

  • We expect every participant to be courteous, respectful, and responsible while understanding that focus, dedication, and commitment are necessary to achieve the group’s goals.
  • We expect each participant to be punctual and prepared for rehearsal. Prepared by knowing the material that was covered in the previous rehearsals, and also prepared by being well-groomed and dressed for movement (no jeans) and wearing clean dance footwear or tennis shoes.
  • We expect that everyone will take good care of the facility; both our rehearsal areas and our performance venues and equipment. That means cleaning up after yourself and taking your belongings home with you at the end of rehearsals/shows. Items left behind will be purged once a month.
  • There is a zero tolerance policy towards any substance abuse. Violations will result in immediate dismissal and appropriate authorities may be contacted.
  • We expect each participant to only use their cell phone for EDMT approved business purposes (for example, recording their vocal part, recording a section of difficult choreography). Performers who abuse cell phone privileges will be asked to put their phones away or may have their phones held at the front desk until after the end of rehearsal.
  • Every EDMT participant should understand that their contributions towards a positive, healthy, and supportive environment are necessary for the group to be successful and to ensure that every El Dorado Musical Theatre production is the best it can be for each and every audience member as well as for each and every performer.
