SHOW OVERVIEW

“Sha la la, Joseph, you’re doing fine! You and your dreamcoat, ahead of your time!” One of the most enduring shows of all time, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is a reimagining of the Biblical story of Joseph, his father Jacob, eleven brothers and the coat of many colors.

Told entirely through song with the help of the Narrator(s), the musical follows the preferred son Joseph. After being sold into slavery by his brothers, he ingratiates himself with Egyptian noble Potiphar, but ends up in jail after refusing the amorous advances of Potiphar’s wife. While imprisoned, Joseph discovers his ability to interpret dreams, and he soon finds himself in front of the mighty but troubled, Elvis-inspired, Pharaoh. Joseph’s solution to Egypt’s famine elevates him to Pharaoh’s right-hand man and reunites him with his family.

The magical musical is full of catchy songs in a variety of styles, from a parody of French ballads (“Those Canaan Days”), to country-western (“One More Angel in Heaven”) and calypso (“Benjamin Calypso”), along with the unforgettable classics “Any Dream Will Do” and “Close Every Door.”

JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals on behalf of The Really Useful Group. www.concordtheatricals.com

REHEARSALS
There is a lead read-through on Monday, March 13th, 4:00-6:15pm at EDMT; new cast members or those who have only been in a training show will have a new performer orientation from 4:00-5:00pm. The first rehearsal will be on Tuesday, March 14th. Lead rehearsals are on Mondays from 4:00-6:15pm (though all performers are subject to be called on a Monday, so read the weekly newsletter for the call list); and all cast member rehearsals are on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:00-6:30pm.

Review the calendar closely. Mandatory rehearsals begin on Monday, May 8th, and the show runs through May 28th at the Harris Center in Folsom. You must be available for all show related activities May 8th through May 28th.

Each cast member is allowed three (3) absences on NON-MANDATORY DATES before being removed from the show. Arriving more than 15 minutes late or leaving more than 15 minutes early constitutes a one-half absence. NO absences are allowed during mandatory rehearsals, tech week or show dates. Missing any of these important dates may result in being dropped from the show.

Rehearsals will take place at EDMT, 4949 Windplay Drive, in El Dorado Hills, CA.

NEW PARENT MEETING
Parents of cast members NEW to EDMT or cast members who have only done an EDMT training show must attend the NEW PARENT MEETING on Tuesday, March 14th, from 5:30-6:30pm, where you will receive important information critical to the success of your cast member. Failure to attend this meeting will result in an absence that will count against the three absences allowed per child during the entire rehearsal period.

ALL PARENT MEETING
Parents of all cast members must attend the ALL PARENT MEETING on Thursday, March 23rd, from 5:30-6:30pm, where you will receive important information and needs specific to this show. Failure to attend this meeting will result in an absence that will count against the three absences allowed per child during the entire rehearsal period.

VOLUNTEER HOURS
Our volunteers are some of the most important people in our organization. Without our volunteers, our productions would not be possible. Volunteers are needed for rehearsals, poster blitz, set painting, costume and prop support, shows, load-in/load-out, etc.

Because of this, each family is required to complete at least 20 volunteer hours for this show. If your family does not complete 20 volunteer hours, a $200 fee will be charged to your credit card on file. Information regarding volunteer positions will be provided by our Parent Volunteer Coordinator, Nicole Koch.

PERFORMER RULES OF CONDUCT
There are standards of behavior you are expected to follow when you participate in any EDMT activity. They are very simple and can be followed by anyone who knows how to behave appropriately in the company of others. What does that mean specifically? We expect every participant to be courteous, respectful, and responsible while understanding that focus, dedication, and commitment are necessary to achieve the group’s goals.

We expect each participant to be punctual and prepared for rehearsal. Prepared by knowing the material that was covered in the previous rehearsals, and also prepared by being well-groomed and dressed for movement (no jeans) and wearing dance footwear (no tennis shoes).

We also expect that everyone participating in EDMT activities will take good care of the facility; both our rehearsal areas and our performance venues and equipment. That means cleaning up after yourself and taking your belongings home with you at the end of rehearsal.

It should be no surprise that we have a zero tolerance policy towards any substance abuse. Violations will result in immediate dismissal and appropriate authorities may be contacted.

Every EDMT participant should understand that their contributions towards a positive, healthy, and supportive environment are necessary for the group to be successful and to ensure that every El Dorado Musical Theatre production is the best it can be for each and every audience member as well as for each and every performer.
