SHOW OVERVIEW
Seussical The Musical is a fantastical, magical, musical extravaganza in which our favorite Dr. Seuss characters, including Horton the Elephant, The Cat in the Hat, Gertrude McFuzz, lazy Mayzie, and a little boy with a big imagination-Jojo are brought to life.  The colorful characters transport us from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus to the invisible world of the Whos.

The Cat in the Hat tells the story of Horton, an elephant, who discovers a speck of dust containing Whos, including Jojo, a Who child sent off to military school for thinking too many “thinks.”  Horton faces a double challenge–not only must he protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, but he must guard an abandoned egg, left to his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird.  Although Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family, and community are challenged and emerge triumphant.

Please be sure to complete the online medical release form and rules of conduct form. Please bring your conflict calendar and copy of a birth certificate (if you are new to EDMT) with you on audition day.

Those who did not have an opportunity to register online before the deadline may register on audition day if space allows.   EVERYONE registered will be in the show. Auditions are to determine who will perform specific roles.

AUDITIONS
Saturday, August 24th at 9:00am at EDMT’s Rehearsal Facility
When you arrive you will be measured for costumes and have a photo taken for the program.

Auditionees will be seated by number in a row of 10 chairs in the audition room.  Parents are invited to watch.  When your number is called, you will come forward, introduce yourself and your song, and then sing for up to one minute. You may sing acapella, with an instrumental CD, or you may bring sheet music for the accompanist. We do not allow CDs with lyrics on the CD, nor iPods or cell phones.

Next, 20 auditionees will perform the dance audition for the staff in groups of five.  Some groups of auditionees will sing first and dance second, and others will dance first and sing second. Those who did not learn the audition dance routine on Monday, August 19th can come early and learn the dance on the day of auditions.

Finally, the Artistic Staff will announce the audition numbers of those who are being called back.  Those called back will proceed immediately to the “Callback Table” in the registration room where they will pick up any songs/scripts needed in preparation for the callback day on Monday.

CALLBACKS
Monday, August 26th at 3:30pm at EDMT’s Rehearsal Facility
Those called back will be asked to read lines from the script and sing the song(s) they were given at the “Callback Table” at auditions.  They should also be prepared to dance.

CAST LIST
The cast list will be posted on the EDMT website on Thursday, August 29th by 6:00pm.

CAST REQUESTS
If you have a family member who is hearing impaired who may want to attend the show, then please request the cast that performs on the day of the Sign Interpreted performance, which for Seussical The Musical  is Saturday, November 9th at 2:00pm.

Due to the large number of special requests, we must now limit requests for inclusion in a cast with a specific person to those requesting to be cast with their sibling(s).

SCHOOL SHOWS
Each cast will perform one (1) school show at Harris Center.  The school shows will take place Thursday, November 7 at 10:00am and Friday, November 8th at 10:00am.

PUBLICITY APPEARANCES
Cast members obtaining lead roles are expected to make themselves available for publicity events such as television appearances and newspaper interviews.

COST
$445 Tuition Fee
For one additional sibling, add $350. For two or more additional siblings, add $300 each.

Plus $75 Refundable Parent Participation Deposit (20 volunteer hours per family required, 3 of which must be completed at load in or load out).    Additional parent participation opportunities will be discussed at the parent meeting.  To receive a refund, all volunteer logs MUST be turned in to either the Parent Volunteer Coordinator or Show Producer by no later than November 10th (ABSOLUTELY NO EXCEPTIONS). NOTE: If a family registers multiple children in the show, only one parent volunteer deposit will be collected.

Additional expenses may include the purchase of personal items such as shoes, changing leotard, or a wig; and those which are completely optional, such as, a cast photo, souvenir mug or ornament, T-shirt, etc…

REFUND POLICY
NO refunds of tuition will be made once the cast list is posted on the EDMT website, except in extenuating circumstances such as death in the family, or a medical injury, serious illness or surgery not known about prior to auditions.

  • Registered cast members will receive a full refund of tuition, minus a $75.00 processing fee if they remove themselves from the cast at least 48 hours prior to Auditions. The parent participation deposit will be refunded in full.
  • Registered cast members will receive one-half refund of tuition, minus a $75.00 processing fee, plus their parent volunteer deposit, if they remove themselves less than 48 hours prior to Auditions, but before the cast list is posted.
  • NO refunds of tuition will be given for withdrawal after the cast list is posted.
  • NO refunds of tuition or parent volunteer deposits will be given to cast members removed from the cast by EDMT staff for behavioral reasons.

Note: Auditionees and their parents are aware that rehearsals are strenuous and require the cast member to have the ability to focus for two-and-a-half hours, with one break.

Parents of cast members NEW to EDMT or cast members who have only done an EDMT training show must attend the PARENT MEETING Tuesday, September 3rd from 4:00-5:00pm, where you will receive important information critical to the success of your cast member and show. This is during the time where your new performer will be called to a “newbie” short rehearsal. There will be a reminder in the first newsletter you will receive after the cast list is posted. Failure to attend this meeting will result in an absence that will count against the three absences allowed per child during the entire rehearsal period.  Parents of cast members who have previously participated in EDMT shows are welcome; however, attendance is not required.

REHEARSALS
Rehearsals will begin Tuesday, September 3rd at EDMT; this will be a read-through with leads; new cast members or those who have only been in a training show will be called for an hour on Tuesday to get an introduction; the first rehearsal for the entire cast will be Thursday, September 5th.  Our regular rehearsal schedule will be Mondays (leads), Tuesdays (entire cast) and Thursdays (entire cast).  However, rehearsal schedules are subject to change. It is extremely important that you download a calendar from the website and mark any schedule conflicts and present them with registration forms on audition day.

Please note that mandatory rehearsals begin on Monday, October 21st and the show runs from November 1st through November 10th at Harris Center (Three Stages) at Folsom Lake College.

EDMT awards up to three major scholarships for a show with a cast size of 50, to individuals deemed most appropriate from the pool of applications.

A scholarship may be all or part of one tuition charge.

Scholarship recipients will not be charged the $75 parent volunteer deposit, but will be held responsible for completing their volunteer hours. Scholarship recipients will not be eligible for another scholarship if parent participation hours are not completed. High school students may opt to complete the parent volunteer hours on their own.

Award decisions will be made based on potential benefit to applicant, potential benefit to the show, and financial need. Scholarship recipients must be in good standing with the company and commit to remain in the show regardless of whether or not a lead role is obtained. They also may be asked from time to time to help out at the EDMT facility.

The deadline for applications is August 6th at 5:00pm. Applications received after the deadline will not be considered. Recipients of scholarships will be notified by email no later than 5:00pm on Friday, August 9th. Click HERE to download the scholarship application.

Please e-mail the completed application to [email protected].
